About Oscar

Black and white portrait of a young man with dark hair, wearing a black t-shirt, standing against a dark background.

I'm a London-based portrait photographer specialising in actors and musicians - people whose image is a genuine part of their career.

I grew up on the Isle of Wight, and was handed my first camera at five years old. When my parents got the film back, they noticed I'd paid more attention to timing and composition than they expected from a five-year-old. Something about it stuck. By sixteen I'd discovered what photography could actually do, studied it at A-Level and university, and have been working freelance ever since.

I've always been drawn to the entertainment industry - music and film have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my life, which is probably why photographing the people who make them feels so natural.

My approach is collaborative by nature. I put a lot of thought into creating the right conditions - the lighting, the environment, the energy in the room - because when someone feels genuinely comfortable, something true tends to come through in front of the camera. That's what I'm always working towards, and it's what makes the difference between a good photo and one you actually feel."

When I'm not shooting I'm usually climbing, cooking, learning Mandarin or travelling.
